Connor Shabro "Developing
Solutions to Medical Cybersecurity Compliance" (Deer Lodge Med Center) Faculty Advisor: Dr. Arkady Retik |
Abstract The main goal of the internship and capstone project
was to complete requirements for the companies Payment Card Industry Data
Security Standard (PCI) compliance review. While this encapsulated many of
the projects, work was also done in daily duties that needed to be done with
their CIO. The projects can easily be split by PCI and non-PCI work. The projects related to PCI encompassed creating a
network graph, reviewing a FEMA course, and creating an Incident Recovery
Action Plan. When creating the network diagram, I used Python, specifically
matplotlib and networkx modules, as well as Visio
modeler. The FEMA course covered the topics of how to handle recovering from
a cybersecurity incident. For creating the Incident Recovery Action Plan, I
utilized information given in the FEMA course and from coursework at UWB. Non-PCI related projects were dependent on the
normal work duties required for the CIO. These projects taught me many skills
such as installing hardware, monitoring network traffic, and programming batch
and PowerShell scripts. These skills were not used directly to complete the
PCI review but helped my growth as a CSSE student. While I worked under my mentor, he allowed me to
lead the projects I worked on, set timelines, and offer input on solutions I
believe could be better. The skills and experience I gained through the
internship were well rounded, taught me how to work on a project as well as
lead one, and showed me best business practices in a technical field. |
