Abstract For my capstone project, I assisted Dr. Dupuis in
his cybersecurity research project by analyzing over 300 different interview transcripts. Initially when
beginning on this project I collaborated with Dr. Dupuis and the other researchers to develop the initial coding schema
that would be used to group the different interview answers. As the other researchers and I began coding the answers, we found
answers that did not match our initial coding schema, so we needed to add more codes, and
recode the transcripts that did not fit the schema. This research study was done to help identify what
would motivate users when it comes to protecting their digital files. Additionally, this research project asked
about general cybersecurity practices the interviewees do and don't do to help get an understanding of the user's behaviors
when it comes to cybersecurity practices. During the research it was found that many of the
interviewees had many different motivators for following cybersecurity practices that ranged from education,
fear, convenience, and many more. Additionally, some of the motivators users gave would contradict an answer
another user would give. It was also found that many users are often lazy when it comes to general cybersecurity
practice, and they prefer to do what is most convenient to them. Overall, the data and information gathered from this
research study may be used to help develop user goals when it comes to creation of software to help users with
cybersecurity practices. |
