Lloyd Deng "Responsive
Design at Noonum" (Noonum) Faculty Advisor: Dr. Marc Dupius |
Abstract My capstone is sponsored by Noonum, a fintech startup based in the currently remote
UW Seattle CoMotion labs, developing a research
platform for traders to invest on their personal values and beliefs. They
operate with agile development practices and invited me to join the team to
add features, fix bugs, and create designs for their product. The first of my tasks was to make
the website be responsive to the user's device, ensuring a consistent user
experience between devices of all shapes, sizes, and interfaces. Doing so is
critical to the product's portability and flexibility; and enables
experiences, for example, on the mobile web browser (for users on-the-go) and
in small desktop windows (for multitasking users). My completion of the task
opened the doors for Noonum to engage with many
more venture capital firms whom require mobile support to provide funding. After completing this on the
existing code, I developed the following features with responsive design: Adding a settings page for users to
toggle daily email notifications Creating algorithms for
reallocating invested money between companies Supporting imports, exports,
presets, and displays for user investment data Rewriting the home page geared
towards Noonum's vision, value-based investing These tasks would ease me through Noonum's technology stack, while keeping in contact with
my team online. During my internship, I have practiced skills in technical,
social, and reflective areas, including: How services communicate between
each other to create a functioning product Expressing my intent with clarity
and precision over remote communication methods Finding my personal needs and
limits to optimize my productivity and health I am sure these takeaways will keep
close through my future, and I thank Noonum for the
illuminating experience and UW Bothell for the treasured moments that brought
me here today. |
