Abstract

Working backwards means to be customer obsessed - inventing on behalf of the customer. Asan Amazon intern I was able to experience software development at one of the big four tech companies. I worked with the talented developers on the Core Engine Order Compute team which focuses on building and maintaining the next generation of the Amazon ordering operating system. Ordering is involved in nearly every detail of your Amazon.com order from the time you click "Add to Cart", to the time you get the "Your Amazon.com order has shipped" email, to the moment you get a refund after a processed return. Over the past weeks I've been working on the Request Weight Deduction Intern Projects. The goal is to efficiently deduce the computational weight of incoming order requests; In order to throttle large orders, that would otherwise overwhelm the ordering compute engine. This concern became more significant as many businesses turned to Amazon.com to place large orders at the beginning of the COVID-19epidemic. The request weight deduction project would later be integrated with large purchase throttling to maintain the integrity of Amazon.com order for our customers.
