"FlexPOS: Retail Inventory Management System"

(Super Wholesale Distributor)

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Erika Parsons

Abstract

The project, dubbed FlexPOS, is a full stack Java application custom built to suit the needs of a local business by the name of Super Wholesale. The project was born out of necessity. The CEO of Super Wholesale, Ray, needed a replacement for his system at the time. Many of the options Ray had looked into were either out of the business budget or did not meet all of his requirements. I was brought in to provide a cheaper alternative that would allow Ray's business to continue to operate smoothly. Many of the choices made during the implementation of this project were determined by: (1) cost and (2) efficiency. All of the software tools employed in the creation of this project are free to use. At the same time it was crucial that I used tools that not only have a reliable track record, but also have a relatively large support on the web. One of the biggest constraints for this project was that Ray required a working prototype that would be ready for use before the expiration of his inventory management software at the time. I was able to successfully build the prototype and lay the foundation for a larger project using design tools learned in class and many of those I picked up in my research phase of the project. Currently Super Wholesale has a working bare-bones product that is allowing the business to run smoothly while I refine the final version.
