Abstract

My capstone was done in collaboration with Yakima Chief Hops, one of the United States largest hop suppliers. During a 12-week internship program with them over Summer 2020, I worked remotely on the enterprise engineering team with two other senior developers, who both served as my mentors. My job was to develop system integrations between our e-commerce website, warehouse management system, ERP system. These integrations allowed all three mentioned subsystems to work in conjunction with one another to share critical business knowledge and synchronize business transactions. We relied heavily on C# and .NET for code implementation, SLQ Server and Azure Storage for database schema, and Azure cloud services for system infrastructure. This work intends to build an architecture at Yakima Chief Hops that supports expected business growth and makes the process of developing new integrations easier. By the end of my internship, I was able to develop all intended integrations while refactoring parts of our legacy system to a new Azure based architecture. I also had time to develop documentation and standard operating procedures for current and future developers of the EIS team. I found that my experiences in UW Bothell courses greatly prepared me for this opportunity, as I applied technical coding practices that directly correlated with course knowledge. Overall, this opportunity gave me professional experience learning new technology while applying classroom concepts in a real business setting.
