"T-Mobile TechX Internship"

(T-Mobile)

Abstract

My T-Mobile TechX internship involved working within the Digital Security Organization (DSO). I initially was first part of the Cyber Technology - Innovation and Incubation team. Their ultimate goal was to find new security solutions that could enhance or replace T-Mobile's current cybersecurity capabilities. While I was with that team, I worked on two projects. One project involved helping to create an automated process that would ensure that servers, from a security perspective, were configured correctly and were logging appropriately. The other project I worked on involved creating a UI interface for developers to interact with a new program that would help protect customer phones from malware.

Later, I decided to transition to a different team. After a couple of interviews, I decided to transition over to the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT). CIRT responds to detected and reported cybersecurity events in or affecting T-Mobile. A response includes initial analysis, incident identification, potential escalation of incidents, mitigation, and post-incident activities. When I am not working on incidents, my other job is to create/maintain tools for CIRT. The current project that I am working on is automating detecting phishing sites' using visual recognition and automating the response tasks once a site has been identified.
