David Kim "Amazon
Internship" (Amazon) Manager: Akshay Kumar Mentors: Thomas An & Sven Eberhardt Faculty Advisor: Dr. Kelvin Sung |
Abstract Amazon is an American multinational technology
company based in Seattle, Washington. Amazon is a great company that not only
focuses on its products like e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming,
and artificial intelligence, but also focuses on customers and providing a
great customer experience. At Amazon I was lucky to be part of the Smart Home
Machine Learning team. The Smart Home Machine Learning team works on products
and services related to smart home devices such as smart lights, smart
fridges, smart speakers, and much more. The type of project I would be
working on is a software development project related to machine learning. The
cool thing about this project is that I would be developing this software
component from scratch with the help of my mentors and manager. Because of
this, I got to learn a lot about the process of developing software in the
real world. I got to learn about how to create a design document for software
at Amazon and I got the opportunity to apply some of the knowledge from CSS
360 and CSS 370 courses. I also learned more about how to write industry
standard code from my mentor and how to make use of tools such as IntelliJ,
Junit, and the Mockito framework. I also learned more about how to use git
and the importance it has in software development. Finally, and most
importantly, I learned and gained experience working in a team environment. I
participated in scrum meetings providing members of the team information
about what I was working on while also being informed about what everyone
else in the team was doing which kept everyone on track and informed. It was
a really great experience and it gave me the opportunity to develop my
teamwork communication skills. Overall, this internship has been a great
experience and something that has greatly developed my career as an upcoming
software engineer, and I am looking forward to continuing my path and career
in this industry. |
