Abstract

Mobile health (mHealth) applications are and have been one of the most popular applications that are in the app markets. However, because these applications hold sensitive and confidential information, they are more susceptible to attacks and threats from unwanted users if these data are not securely stored. The issue with a lot of the mHealth applications is that the developers building these applications do not have a vast knowledge regarding the security aspect, and so, a lot of security features are overlooked and the user data that are created and stored from in the applications are not securely stored and handled. The goal of this project is to create a multi-level security framework that will be easily accessible and helpful for the developers building mHealth applications so that the developers can use them to ensure security and privacy of the data that are being stored and used throughout the application.

I worked to store sensitive and non-sensitive data into the application sandbox and integrate requesting authentication and encrypting/decrypting sensitive data when storing/retrieving to/from applications. Throughout my capstone, I was able to learn more about the Swift programming language, the basics of mobile development, how to manage data in iOS application, and the features and frameworks that Apple provides to its iOS developers.
